From the Founder:
Seventeen years ago, I entered the most valuable, rewarding, and difficult career of my life. I became a full-time teacher in an urban school district outside of Chicago. Serving a demographic where 83 percent of the nearly 29,000 students currently qualify for free or reduced meal plans, the job was more challenging than I had anticipated. At times I felt isolated and stressed out to my limits. And, quite frankly, sometimes I wondered if it was worth the low pay. Those first two years were tough. But I made it and I grew to love the students and my profession beyond words. I became a full-time new teacher mentor fifteen years in to my career, after having taught in various capacities at all grade levels. I mentored first-year and second-year teachers as they made the transition from college or other careers to their own classrooms. The new teachers were so receptive! They asked for and eagerly accepted help daily. Beyond any requirement of the mentoring program, they were calling and texting often, seeking professional guidance and emotional support.
During this time I learned that many schools and districts don’t offer mentoring programs to their new teachers! Because I firmly believe that EVERY new teacher needs and deserves a mentor, Text Your Mentor was launched in the summer of 2016.
Every teacher will now have access to a mentor twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Our mentors are distinguished, certified teachers who hold masters’ degrees or higher, each with a minimum of fifteen years in the classroom. Thank you for your interest in Text Your Mentor. If you'd like to get in touch, please don't hesitate to contact us. We'd love to hear from you!
